Inspector General of Police Dr Kiran Bedi has invited representatives of city
based NGOs to a meeting on May 1, where they would be introduced to the area SHOs to have smoother
interaction between the two.
The IGP was participating in a discussion on
Empowerment of Women, organized by the local chapter of Indian Council of Social
Welfare, here today.
The IGP also reiterated the importance of having a drug
de-addiction and family counseling center in the city to counter instances of domestic violence,
dysfunctional homes and other crimes against women and children, she assured the gathering that

would be given to their complaints.
Bedi talked about making the city police a role model in crime prevention which
would make policing accountable, transparent, honest, sensitive and free from gender bias.
The discussion continued with P.H. Vaishnav giving a
lecture on the importance of planning properly to ensure womens empowerment, Municipal
Councilor Harjinder Kaur also spoke on the occasion.
Others present were P.G. Gavai, President, ISCW, Jai
Shree Sharma, ex-chairperson, Chandigarh Social
Advisory Board, and Rani Sharma, President of the local ICSW chapter. |
