A team of specialists at Tihar
during the Health Care Day

The Republic Day was celebrated as the Health Care Day in Tihar Prisons
today. About 8500 jail inmates were given medical treatment.
This was the first time in Tihar jail that hundreds of
doctors and specialists joined together in this novel gesture. Over 400 medical and paramedical
staff extended their services to the inmates. The team of medical experts belonged to about 35
different organizations which included Government as well as non governmental centres.
The massive medical exercise to give complete health
check-up is expected to reduce unnecessary referrals from the prisons to the outside hospitals.
Specialists in eye, skin, cancer and AIDS also joined the
group of medicos.
Mrs Kiran Bedi, Inspector General of Prisons, Central
Jail, Tihar stated that the greatest community support was extended to the jail inmates today by
giving them treatment. |
