New Scheme for night traffic
patrolling
(The Patriot, 2 November 1981)
Delhi traffic police has introduced a night traffic patrolling scheme for checking errant drivers
reports Press Trust of India.
The DCP (Traffic) Mrs Kiran Bedi said on Sunday that the
drive launched on Saturday night would be led by a gazetted officer to supervise the patrolling.
She said that the purpose of the patrolling was two-fold.
Firstly, it was to catch errant drivers and secondly,
prevent unauthorized checking either by traffic police or by other agencies.
One special feature of the drive was that not only challans would be issued but
cash security deposits collected on the spot.
The special team detected a case of unauthorized checking by police on Saturday
night, she said .
The drive was concentrated on the outer Delhi highways
and netted Rs 320 in cash deposits.
Mrs Bedi on Sunday morning along with senior traffic police officers met three
-wheeler auto rickshaw drivers at the New Delhi railway station and they reportedly assured her
that they would not in future refuse passengers or overcharge them. |
