Kiran joined the Indian Police Service in 1972. After completing her training at the National Police Academy at Mount Abu, Rajasthan, she was posted as the Sub-Divisional Police Officer at the Chanakyapuri Police Station in New Delhi and became the first woman in uniform to lead the all male contingent of the Delhi Police at the Republic Day Parade in 1975.

A Tough Lady In All Male Bastion 
Kiran Bedi, 25 years, is young, married, but she is an Assistant Superintendent of Police. When she puts on her uniform, she can be a tough woman.
In ‘Women’s Year’ 
The first lady officer in the Indian Police Service, Mrs Kiran Bedi will lead the contingent of the Delhi Police in the Republic Day Parade this year. This has been done in view of the United Nation’s decision to observe the year 1975 as ‘Women’s Year’, according to police sources.  Mrs Bedi presently is the Sub-Divisional Police Officer in the Chanakyapuri area.
